1st District Democrats Honors Don Currey
The East Hartford First District Democrats honor Don Currey with the Frank Fitzgerald Distinguished Democrat Award at the Annual First District Democrats St. Patrick's Day Dinner on Sunday, March 14, at the Marco Polo Restaurant, 1905 Burnside Avenue, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Don has been a loyal, active and long-time East Hartford Democrat. In making this year's announcement, First District Chairman Patricia Begley remarked, "Don has worked tirelessly both in front of and behind the scenes for many years. From volunteering on local, state and federal campaigns to his distinguished service as the Chairman of the Board of Education for many years, Don has always been someone all East Hartford Democrats could count upon to answer the call when there was work that needed to be done."
Don Currey
A 32-year resident Of East Hartford, Donald M. Currey has served the town in many capacities both civic, as a volunteer and as an elected official.
He was a member of the YMCA Board Of Managers, chaired the Y's sustaining campaign, served his school's PTA, was a Little League coach and is a member of the East Hartford Lion's Club, Loyal Order Of The Moose and American Legion.
Don served on the Board Of Education for 12 years, 6 as Chairman, on the Town Council for two terms and was Town Treasurer for 8 years.
He is a Justice Of The Peace, member of the town Retirement Board, Insurance Commission and Public Building Commission.
In the Democratic party he has served as a member of the Town Committee for 28 Years and was district chairman and vice-chairman during that time.
A veteran of the US Air Force he is married to Mayor Melody and they have three children, Becky, Jeff and Matt.

The Frank Fitzgerald Distinguished Democrat Award was named after East Hartford's long-time Democratic 1st District Chairman. Frank was a lifelong resident of East Hartford, a devoted husband and a loving father to eight children. Frank worked tirelessly for the Democratic Party. He would promote the candidates that he thought were the best for the Democratic Party and the best to win the election. He truly was a man who embodied the spirit of the Democratic Party. The award was created after Frank's death to pay tribute to the person that best symbolized Frank Fitzgerald's unwavering commitment to the Democratic Party and the Town of East Hartford
